Obituary For Virginia Elizabeth Branch-Mullen

Virginia Elizabeth Mullen was a strong and caring mother and person who was born on June 1st 1923 to the loving parents of Johny A. Branch and Annie M. Branch in a little town called Farmville. She was the beloved granddaughter of Willis Branch And Willie A. Branch. She attended the now historical school and museum R.R. Moton in the era of segregation and endured the great depression. After graduating High School she pursued Her ambitions and enrolled in a Secretarial Business School with aspirations to work in the business field. Upon completing the course she moved to Plainsfield, New Jersey. In the year of 1952 she meet the love of her life and married Alfred E. Mullen. Later they moved to the state of Florida where Alfred family had a farm. She never had a drivers license but she would help out on the farm by driving the truck to collect Watermelons, tobacco, peanuts and other produce in an effort to earn an honest Living. But when she moved to the city she wouldn’t drive but always thought about it. By the time she had her last son they moved to Fort Lauderdale in the 60’s and started her 20 year career in retail At J.C. Penny. She practiced her faith at Mount Bethel Baptist Church there while instilling the same beliefs in her children. Rain or shine she would take a 2 mile walk with her pocket book hanging on her arm to catch a bus to the job that she was dedicated to and keep the commitment that she had to her family. Then after working all day she would make that same bus journey back to her family to not only bring home the bacon but also she would fry it up in the pan. We didn’t have much but her upbringing didn’t allow handout nor government assistance; and she refused to ever ask. She was a strong women and she lived her life with that same determination. She later returned to the place she called home to be with her Family and friend of Farmville where she settled into her retirement. She joined First Baptist Church along with her aunt’s and uncle to continue to practice her faith. She loved play word search, watching wheel of fortune and eating ice cream. She loved her plants and caring for them because that’s who she were. She is preceded in death by her husband Alfred Mullen, her first born son Wendell Mullen (Catherine), her 3rd born son Alvin

Mullen and her grandson, Demetris Mullen (Char). She is survived by her sons Gregory Mullen (Kim), Vincent Mullen(Karen), Bob Mullen(Debra) and Michael Mullen. Over 15 Grand children’s and many grand children’s and Great Grand Children. Our hearts will be heavy for a lone time because the greatest mother ever known will no longer bless us with her presents nor bathe us with a caring smile. Rest in peace and know your footsteps will always walk amongst us.
