Obituary For Virginia “Jenny” Eppes Stanton

On January 13, 2025, our hearts were broken as God dispatched his death Angel to visit my wife, my mother, and my nana, Virginia Louise Stanton, affectionally known as “Jenny”.

A Time to Be Born: Virginia was born on April 19, 1944, to the late James F. and India Eppes, in Burkeville, Virginia. She joined High Rock Baptist Church at an early age and remained a devoted and faithful member until her death.

A Time to Learn: Virginia graduated from Luther H. Foster High School in 1965. A Time to Work: Virginia was employed through the years by Uniroyal, Holly Farms, Longwood University and Prince Edward County, where she retired in 2006.

A Time for Family: She had one beloved daughter, Karen L. Hughes. She was married to Elbert W. Stanton on May 28, 1988. She had two granddaughters, Charla N. Hughes and Kamryn L. Hughes, whom she adored and loved dearly. She enjoyed planting flowers, listening to gospel music, cooking and most of all spending time and talking with her family and friends. Jenny had a heart of gold and always put others before herself.

A Time to Cherish Memories: Jenny was preceded in death by her parents James and India Eppes, brothers Ernest “Pete” Eppes, James “Pap” Eppes, William “Junious” Eppes and Joseph “Joe” Eppes. Jenny leaves to mourn: her loving, faithful and devoted husband Elbert W. Stanton; daughter, Karen L. Hughes; son-in-law, Charles E. Hughes, III; granddaughters, Charla N. Hughes and Kamryn L. Hughes; sister, Phyllistine Lee (James); brother, Robert “Bro” Eppes; sister-in-laws, Elsie Eppes, Lois Eppes and Shirley Stanton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who were very dear to her heart.
