Obituary For Walter Junior Stokes

Walter Junior “Meatball” Stokes was born on March 5, 1957, in Lunenburg County, VA. to the late Mary Foster and raised by his stepfather, Trustee Harold Foster. He went to be with the Lord on September 26, 2025, at Medical College of Virginia (MCV) Hospital, Richmond, VA.

Walter was baptized and accepted Christ as a young child. He was a member of the Levi Baptist Church in Green Bay, VA. Walter was a kind man, who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His favorite
sports team was the Commanders.

Walter graduated from Prince Edward County High School in Farmville, VA in 1976. His employment included Powhatan Correctional Center, Nash Construction Westinghouse Security Electronics, Buffalo Shook Company and Virginia Union University. Walter had a passion for cooking, and he was hired as a cook at various restaurants in the Richmond area. Walter had a sense of humor and a great laugh but when he was serious, he was serious. He was a humble man and he loved his family; one
earning the nickname “Boss Hog” along with many other variations of “Meatball”.

Prior to his passing, he had been admitted to a nursing home; however, due to his determination, he was able to move into his own apartment, where
he resided independently. His faithful walk is an inspiration to others.

Walter is survived by his siblings, Brenda Stokes, Hampton, VA, Alphonso Foster (Sandra), Richmond, VA, Wendell Foster (Eloise) Suffolk, VA, Cheryl Foster, Richmond, VA, Morris Foster, Richmond, VA, and Steven Foster (Gail) Augusta, GA. He has 7 nieces and nephews, Tymesha, Wendell, Jr. “WJ”, Karah, Sean, Ashley, Chase and one great nephew (DeAdrian). He has one uncle, Robert Stokes of Meherrin, VA and a host of other cousins.

Walter is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Foster, step-father, Harold Foster, and one brother, Douglas Stokes.
